WEC is taking part in the ESCALITURB Project to develop technologies for the production of inter-turbine hot structures

This project, which is being led by ITP, will enable WEC to incorporate laser seal monitoring systems into its processes, amongst other technological advances

 

 

WEC will take part in the ESCALITURB Project (Competitive Technologies for Inter-Turbine Hot Structures, led by ITP and which, along with other partners from the Aeronautics Advanced Manufacturing Centre (CFAA), such as Danobat, GMTK, Ibarmia, Sariki and other companies from the aeronautics sector, such as ALFA and PCB, is aiming to incorporate laser seal monitoring systems into its processes. In addition, this project, in which each company will develop its own area of specialisation, will enable the Velatia group company to open a line of improvement of welding processes to replace TIG, plasma or with a greater effect on the materials.

 

Through ESCALITURB the participating companies share a common work space that guarantees the linking of the project at more advanced MRL levels.

 

Thus, WEC focuses its research activities on the study of laser welding as an alternative to electron-beam or TIG welding, aiming to meet 3 main challenges:

 

  • CHALLENGE 1: Automatic system for seal monitoring in laser welding.
  • CHALLENGE 2: Laser welding of dissimilar metals.
  • CHALLENGE 3: Laser welding of metals of various thicknesses.

 

The main objective of this activity is therefore the study of Laser Welding as an alternative to Conventional Welding Systems (EBW) to improve the competitiveness of the process of repairing cast parts and offer better manufacturing techniques to allow more competitive designs in terms of cost and weight.
